The Thermal Pool

The Porretta Terme’s pool is a thermal pool containing salsobromoiodine water at a temperature of 35°C.

The structural characteristics allow its use by everyone: people suffering from arthrosis who want to cure their osteoarticular system, people trying to relief body and mind from the stress of everyday life, pregnant women who want to prepare optimally for childbirth, children who get acquainted to water for the first time, disabled people who need rehabilitation.

The access to the water is provided via a wide staircase, the basin is divided into three areas, in which the water level is differentiated (80, 120, 140 cm.), within the same tank, helping tools are present – such parallels and handles along the edge – that promote its usability.

To the left of the main tank, there are two small basins with different temperature water (respectively 22°C and 32°C), lateral hydro-massages with differentiated pressure (maximum on the bottom, lower towards the surface), and a bottom covered with river pebbles: those are the vascular pathways.

The salsobromoiodine waterof the pool and vascular pathways has various biological effects, including examples are the anti-inflammatory and soothing ones.

The water temperature then helps muscle relaxation and raises the pain threshold allowing a relief to those suffering from muscle spasms and providing a specific work to the sportsman who must recover after an injury or after an intense workout.

The thermal pool: instruction for use

Swimming in the pool is very pleasant and relaxing: especially by virtue of the water temperature, it is almost a return to the maternal womb (and therefore particularly pleasing to children).

However, too prolonged stays in the water are not recommended due to the high temperature.

An immersion period of 30 minutes is recommended, followed by a relaxation period on the chairs at the poolside.

After bathing, it is better not to go out at once: the body has accumulated heat to be lost slowly and not too abruptly. A quick stop into the pool, and a bit longer one in hall, allows to exhaust the sweating reaction period that occurs after swimming, without incurring into abrupt decreases of blood pressure or in ‘air blasts’ often responsible for annoying colds.
