Spa water two thousand years of history

Spa water culture is as old as the history of man and is based on perfectly natural principles. Spa water is unalterable, as natural as nature intended and can only be used in the form provided by nature in those evocative places known as spas.

"Sunt Thermae Medicinae Optima Pars" (Spas are the best medicine), said Rome's greatest naturalist, Pliny in an age when chemical pharmaceuticals did not exist and most illnesses were prevented and cured using spa waters. Properties still available today for those who value their health, who like to bathe in and drink from thermal springs and inhale their beneficial vapours because spa waters remain the best cure without presenting side effects.

The spa waters of Porretta Terme are 2000 years old. Legend has it that the curative properties of its waters were discovered thanks to a sick ox. The ox, too weak to pull a plough, was released by its owner and during its wanderings drank at the Spa spring where it found renewed vigour. Since that day the healed ox has been the emblem of the Porretta Spa Centres.
